BASF and D-Wave complete a hybrid-quantum manufacturing proof-of-concept with measured efficiency gains
On 2025-11-05 BASF and D-Wave Quantum announced completion of a proof-of-concept that applied a hybrid-quantum application to optimize production scheduling at a BASF liquid-filling facility, reducing scheduling computation time from about 10 hours to seconds and improving operational metrics versus an existing optimizer: lateness down 14%, setup times down 9%, and tank-unloading durations down up to 18%. Disclosed via Form 8-K (Item 7.01) and press.
A completed PoC with a named blue-chip industrial customer (BASF) and quantified operational improvements is concrete commercial validation of D-Wave's hybrid-quantum optimization for manufacturing, the kind of named-benchmark customer result that distinguishes annealing's applied traction; it is a PoC rather than a production contract.
Quantified manufacturing-optimization PoCs with large industrials are D-Wave's clearest path from research engagements to recurring enterprise revenue; conversion to production deployment is the open question.
