IonQ partners with General Dynamics IT to target US government and defense quantum work
On 2025-02-10 IonQ announced a partnership with General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics, to co-develop and market quantum processing and networking applications for US federal and state government customers, including quantum-AI extensions, resource optimization, and anomaly detection. IonQ framed the deal as building on prior federal traction, including a $54.5 million US Air Force Research Lab contract and a $5.7 million blind-quantum-computing award.
Pairing IonQ's hardware with GDIT's established government-contracting channel is a meaningful go-to-market move into the defense and federal sector, where systems-integrator relationships gate procurement; it is a collaboration rather than a booked contract, so dollar impact is not yet defined.
Integrator-led access to classified and mission government programs can convert into recurring multi-year awards and deepens IonQ's positioning against rivals competing for the same federal quantum budgets.
