Ford Otosan deploys D-Wave hybrid-quantum scheduling application in production
On 2025-03-31 D-Wave announced that Ford Otosan, the lead manufacturer of Ford's Transit van line, deployed a hybrid-quantum optimization application in production to sequence vehicle manufacturing, using D-Wave's annealing technology via the Leap quantum cloud service. D-Wave reported the application cut scheduling time for runs of 1,000 vehicles from roughly 30 minutes to under five minutes and improved flexibility to adapt to demand and parts-availability changes. Ford Otosan stated plans to extend quantum scheduling to additional body shops, paint shops, assembly lines, and buffer zones. A Form 8-K (items 7.01, 9.01) was filed the same day.
A named automotive OEM running a D-Wave hybrid-quantum application in live production, rather than a pilot, is a concrete commercial-traction data point for quantum optimization with a quantified scheduling-time reduction.
Production deployment with a reference customer supports D-Wave's bookings narrative and its 'quantum optimization is usable today' positioning versus gate-model rivals still pre-revenue on applications; expansion to additional plant processes would compound annual-recurring-revenue potential.
